Direct Emergency Assistance
Provides assistance with heat, utilities, and rent for families that are unable to meet these expenses. EWVCAA leverages funds from FEMA, Salvation Army, Ministerial Associations and other community groups to assist with this effort. We expect to serve in excess of 4,000 clients with this service.
Youth Opportunity Camp
YMCA Camp Horseshoe provides summer camp experience for low-income youth in the Potomac Highlands. EWVCAA partners with YMCA Camp Horseshoe on this effort. Camp Horseshoe gives the campers free tuition and EWVCAA provides PR to secure attendees and provides transportation to and from the camp. EWVCAA expects to serve 16 campers this year. CSBG Funds
Work Force Development/Employment
EWVCAA partners with Region VII WIB by managing the One-Stop Career Centers in the Eastern Panhandle. EWVCAA also provides Fiscal management for the One-Stop Centers. Region VII WIB provides tuition and other training assistance to low-income and unemployed individuals. As part of the direct service EWVCAA provides funds to assist with removing employment barriers such as assisting with the cost of textbooks, licensing, testing, special employment related clothing and other items necessary for the client to become employed after the training. We expect to provide intensive services to 30 clients.
Warm The Children
Warm the Children is a community based coordinated volunteer effort operated by EWVCAA and the local Newspapers to secure donations which are used to purchase winter coats and gloves for low-income children. We anticipate serving 150 youth this year.
Provides measures that lower the energy burden on low-income households, such as adding insulation, sealing air leaks and providing more efficient heating systems. We anticipate serving 113 households this year.
Provides additional energy saving services to residents in the counties of Grant, Hardy and Hampshire, such as replacing low efficiency heating systems with high efficiency heat pumps and replacing low efficiency appliances with energy star rated appliances. We anticipate serving 60-80 clients with this program.
Provides assistance to families in need of holiday assistance such as presents for young children and food for holiday meals. This is a totally volunteer effort; gifts and food are purchased with donated funds and sponsorships by local churches and civic groups.
This program is offered in conjunction with WVU Extension Service and the local food pantries. WVU Extension Service provides nutrition classes to low-income recipients of food assistance, where they are taught to cook balanced nutritious meals and special classes are provided to teach cooking for the diabetic.
Senior Citizen Holiday Program
The Senior Citizen Holiday program is coordinated by EWVCAA. Volunteers work with community leaders to gather funds and items for presents to be wrapped and presented to residents of the local nursing homes. This is the first year of operation for this program.
Dollar Energy Fund
This program is a coordinated effort between Eastern West Virginia Community Action Agency and Dollar Energy Fund to assist clients with electric bills that are in termination.
Eastern West Virginia Community Action Agency in Conjunction with Region VII Workforce Investment Board provides funding to dislocated workers to help them become employed in higher paying jobs.
Emergency Crisis Intervention Program
This program is designed to provide heat for clients who are in a no heat situation between November 1 and March 31.
Eastern West Virginia Community Action Agency operates the Salvation Army Service Units in Hardy and Grant Counties. This is a volunteer effort supported by donations.
LIEAP Emergency and Non-Emergency
These funds are through DHHR but Eastern West Virginia Community Action Agency refers clients and assists clients with applications to DHHR for these funds.
Information and Referral
Eastern West Virginia Community Action Agency provides referral to services that we do not offer or that may be used in conjunction with our services to help alleviate the problems of our clients including emergency assistance, removal of barriers to employment and other related services.
Federal Emergency Management Agency
Emergency Food and Shelter Program (FEMA EFSP)
Eastern West Virginia Community Agency is the recipient agency for FEMA EFSP funds for Hardy, Grant, Hampshire and Pendleton counties. EFSP provides emergency funds for utility and rent assistance to low-income households.
First Energy LICUAP Program
Provides for home energy audits, adjustments to energy adjustable appliances, CFL light bulbs, low flow shower heads and low flow faucets and refrigerators to replace older less energy efficient models.
First Energy Home Check Up Program Audits
Provides home energy audits to multi-dwelling units and other homes in our service are that are not weatherization clients. Independent contractors perform these energy audits under the direction of EWVCAA.
Social Services to Veterans Families (SSVF)
SSVF provides emergency assistance to veterans and their families to prevent homelessness and to rapidly house and stabilize veterans who are homeless.
