Community Services Block Grant
CSBG provides support to various programs to assist our clients. The programs below are some of the activities supported by CSBG.
Emergency Utility Assistance – This program helps prevent termination of utilities in a household. In addition to photo IDs and Social Security Cards for all household members the client must have a current termination notice from the utility company.
Rental Assistance - This program helps prevent eviction from a rental property. In addition to photo IDs and Social Security Cards for all household members the client must have a court ordered eviction notice and a copy of the lease.
Remove Barriers to Employment – Provides various types of assistance to enable clients with a new job or an employment offer to maintain employment. In addition to photo IDs and Social Security Cards for all household members the client must have proof of employment or an offer letter from the new employer.
Mobile Food Pantry - This service provides prearranged scheduled access to food that is outside the areas regular food pantries. Each county schedules and oversees the food distribution based on availability of food from the Mountaineer Food Bank.
Youth Opportunity Camp – YMCA Camp Horseshoe offers camp scholarships to low-income youth in our service area. Eastern West Virginia Community Action Agency provides access to transportation for the youth to attend the camp.
The Weatherization Program is designed to lower the energy burden of low-income households by making the home more energy efficient. Generally the home is made more energy efficient by sealing air leaks and adding insulation. Household repairs, such as roof replacement and other major repairs, are not allowed under the Weatherization Program.
To qualify for Weatherization the total household income must be at 200% of Federal Poverty Level or below and the client must own or have life rights to the home. Rental properties may be Weatherized if the renter meets the income standards and the landlord agrees to pay a percentage of the cost of Weatherization.
Emergency Crisis Intervention Program
ECIP provides immediate response to clients who are in a no heat situation. The program is typically available from November 1 through March 15th each year. The household must meet the regular Weatherization Program requirements to qualify for assistance. The total household income must be at 200% of Federal Poverty Level or below and the client must own or have life rights to the home.
Salvation Army Service Unit
EWVCAA operates the Salvation Army Service unit in this county. As the local Salvation Army contact EWVCAA conducts activities such as annual bell ringing during the Christmas season and receives donations throughout the year to support the program. Applicants for assistance must be a resident of the county, complete an application for assistance and be approved for assistance by the regional Salvation Army office. This process can be completed in one visit to our offices.
Social Services to Veterans Families (SSVF)
SSVF provides emergency assistance to veterans and their families to prevent homelessness and to rapidly house and stabilize veterans who are homeless.
EWVCAA coordinates the volunteers and activities that provide Holiday Assistance to low-income families. Generally, the assistance includes food for the Christmas dinner and presents for the family. Must have a household income of 125% of Federal Poverty Level or less.
Moorefield Active Caring MAC House
MAC is a local food pantry that serves Hardy County. Must have a household income of 125% of Federal Poverty Level or less. EWVCAA provides referrals and vouchers to the MAC House.
